You have probably seen the novelty roulette wheels that can be bought for a fun casino night at home. They are made of plastic and are miniature in size, sometimes coming with a felt cloth that can be laid out over a table to make things feel more authentic.
It’s cute but it’s nothing like the real thing.
They often come out around Christmas and can make an amusing gift, but for a serious roulette fan they aren’t going to cut the mustard.
Granted, it would be a little extreme to have a full size roulette table in your home, but there are more wealthy people in the UK than ever before these days, and if a casino in your basement is what you have always dreamed of, you might be wondering if you can buy the real deal and how much it would cost.
Well, you can. And relatively easily too. Here’s how.
How to Buy a Full Size Roulette Table
Before you get too carried away, just double check them dimensions of the room you are planning to put the beast in.
On average, a roulette table is about 2.5 x 1.5 meters, with space for six or seven players plus the dealer, and you will need enough space to walk around the table and to allow for any furniture and doors opening etc.
You also need to be able to get it through the door or window.
In terms of where to get it from you have a few options.
Casino Suppliers
Companies like TCS John Huxley and Cammegh are famous for manufacturing top quality roulette tables (and other casino products) and have been in operation for decades.
Huxley’s have supplied casinos all over the world, and have a huge range of roulette tables not to mention all of their other casino products. They are particularly well known for more tech heavy tables.
Cammegh actually make the tables in a small workshop in Kent, where they began in a garage, and every wheel is handmade. They supply casino such as the Casino de Monte-Carlo, so they really are the best in the business.
Safe to say it would be difficult for a private customer to secure a table from a company of this calibre, and it is not as simple as just ordering from a website. You would have to contact them directly with your requirements and have them draw up a quote.
Bespoke Companies
There are other companies like the two mentioned above who do not have such a monopoly on the casino industry, and who might be more likely to supply private customers.
You might even be able to find tables with more unique designs from some of these companies, like the one in the picture above from a company called Vismara in Italy.
These tables do not come cheap though, as you will essentially be asking them to build you a bespoke product by hand.
You can find cheaper full size tables made of plastic and low quality wood, but they aren’t very nice to look at, as you can see in the image below, and probably won’t last that long.
The difference in quality in this bracket is wide, but it just depends on your budget and what you want from the table you buy.
Some of the cheapest options can actually be found abroad, but there is an element of risk with these sorts of products, as they may be shipping from places like China and sold on international websites. So just make sure you aren’t accidentally buying a miniature, and that the company has decent reviews.
Get it Second Hand
The best way to get your hands on a good quality full size roulette table without taking out a second mortgage is to find a second hand one.
There are a surprising number of them out there on auction sites and the like, and you can even find some vintage pieces if you want to add a touch of history.
Obviously with the tables being second hand you might find slight visual defects but the table should be in good working condition unless the advert mentions an issue that you already know about.
You should check all of this thoroughly though because you are still likely to be handing over a sizeable amount of money.
How Much Do Roulette Tables Cost?
You can spend as little as a few hundred pounds on something cheap and mass produced, all the way up to around £20,000 for a top quality table from a bespoke manufacturer.
You might even be able to spend more as the biggest company don’t advertise their prices.
Obviously, the price range is as variable as each company and each product they offer, so it’s not possible to list the full range of prices out there, but we can give you an idea.
In general, you can think of the pricing brackets like this:
Type | Price Range |
---|---|
Cheap Mass Produced | £250-£3,000 |
Bespoke/Independent Company | £12,000-£20,000 |
Top Casino Supplier | Expect £20k+ |
Second Hand | £1,000+ |
That should give you a general idea of where to begin your search, based on your budget.
The company you buy from should be able to arrange delivery, at a cost of course, but if you are buying second hand you might have to arrange this yourself.
